Clothing Care Guide: Tips for Longevity

At CARON, we place great value on the lifespan of the items you purchase from us. We understand that you want your new favourite garments to retain their look, feel, and perfect fit. Below, you will find a number of essential recommendations for maintaining your clothing, ensuring your purchases remain in excellent condition for years to come.

Washing & Temperature

  • Cold Wash as Standard: For lightly soiled clothing, we always advise using a low washing temperature. A 30-degree Celsius cycle is generally sufficient to refresh your garments and remove common stains.

  • Important Considerations: Items featuring large or loose prints, as well as garments made from a blend of different materials, should ideally be washed cold. This prevents damage to the fabric structure and embellishments.

Fabric Softener

While fabric softener provides a pleasant scent and a soft feel, we strongly advise against using it for most garments.

  • The Negative Effects: Fabric softener leaves a thin layer of residue on the fabric, which can cause prints to fade and reduce the breathability of technical or sportswear. This residue can also contribute to pilling (fuzzing) and dull the vibrancy of colours.

The Drying Process

  • Avoid the Tumble Dryer: It is crucial never to place your clothing in the dryer. While hot air is suitable for items like towels, it can cause severe damage to delicate clothing.

  • The Risks: High temperatures can cause bonded or printed motifs to peel and lift. There is also a significant risk of shrinkage, distortion, and warping of the fabric. Additionally, elasticated garments can lose their flexibility, permanently damaging the fit.

Wash Instructions & Care Labels

Every garment features a care label with international symbols. Please follow these instructions carefully. The label provides the most accurate information on how to keep your specific item in optimal condition.

Immediate Removal from the Washing Machine

  • After Washing: Remove your clothing—especially items with prints or custom details—from the washing machine immediately after the cycle finishes.

  • Prevent Damage: If damp clothing is left in the drum for too long, prints can stick together, risking damage when pulled apart. Furthermore, hanging garments up straight away helps minimise creases. Hang your clothing on a clothes hanger immediately to maintain its shape and reduce the need for ironing.

Ironing your Clothing

  • Check First: Always consult the care label to determine if ironing is permitted and to check the maximum recommended temperature.

  • Prints & Stretch: Never iron directly over prints, embroidery, or graphics. You should also avoid ironing items with a high percentage of stretch. Stretch clothing naturally wrinkles very little, provided it is hung up immediately after washing.

We trust that these practical guidelines will help you enjoy your purchases for much longer.
